With so many choices to pick from, it can be hard to know where to start. Not sure which spot is the best for you? Let's dig into some of our top local picks:
Mexican Restaurants in Grapevine That Pack the Flavor
1. Mesa Restaurant: $$
Raul and Olga Reyes are no strangers to the restaurant scene. The Dallas Observer recognized their first venture, La Palapa Veracruzana, as the "Best Mexican Restaurant in Dallas" in 2009.
In May 2011, the Reyes' opened Mesa, a re-imagined take on their old restaurant, in its same location in Oak Cliff. In 2016, they opened a location in Grapevine.
Mesa pays homage to the fresh, authentic Veracruzana cuisine that honors the Reyes' hometown of Alvarado, Veracruz.Â
Its modern interior features touches of reclaimed metal and wood (check out some pics here), and its menu items are equally impressive. Be sure to try the Mole de Mama Cata, based on Olga's mother's recipe.Â
Need more proof that Mesa's hot? Jay-z and Beyoncé recently ate at the Oak Cliff location.
We'll see you there.
2. Mi Dia from scratch: $$
Injecting traditional Mexican City staples with Santa Fe and Tex-Mex flavors, Mi Dia from scratch offers something for everyone, even providing vegan and gluten-free options.
Opening in Grapevine in 2011 with another location in Plano, some of Mi Dia's popular dishes include the stacked enchiladas and Xmas burrito.
While the 100-variety giant tequila tower makes quite an impression in the dining room, be sure to check out the outdoor bar and fire pit for a cozy place to socialize and feast.
3. Tommy Tamale Market & Cafe: $
Next time you're out of salsa, don't head to any old market.Â
Grapevine's Tommy Tamale Market & Cafe not only features a huge variety of gourmet Tex-Mex groceries, it's also home to some of the most celebrated tamales in the country.
Named by Yelp! as one of the top 25 places to eat in the nation, Tommy Tamale opened its brick-and-mortar location in Grapevine in 2015.
Prior to opening, co-owners Steve and Joann Barker sold tamales out of their truck and at the Grapevine Farmer's Market for more than five years.
Favorite varieties include the Chicken Tamale, as well as the spicier Habanero Pork. Check out the full menu here.
4. Los Amigos: $
As one of the most established Mexican restaurants in Grapevine, Los Amigos has been serving up Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes for more than 20 years.
Go for the robust and flavorful menu, featuring enchiladas, tacos, and fajitas, then stay for the free beer.
You read that right. A free beer is included with your meal, or you're welcome to BYOB. We like the way this place thinks.
5. Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano: $$
Located in Grapevine's historic district in a renovated house from the 1800s, Esparza's features several dining areas. Here, you can sit back and enjoy their infamous margaritas, homemade salsa, and eclectic Tex-Mex dishes.
A city staple since 1985, Esparza's not only offers dishes that locals crave, such as the stuffed chili relleno, it also bottles and sells its own hot sauce, so take a little taste of downtown home with you!
While there are several Mexican restaurants in Grapevine, be sure to check out the five above. These spots define our city's flavor and culture, and there's a table waiting just for you.
